Investigation Launched by Police Following Robbery of Postal Worker in Dorchester – WHDH 7News Reports on Boston News, Weather, and Sports

A police investigation is underway in Dorchester after two postal workers were targeted in robberies, according to a report by WHDH 7News. One worker was successfully robbed, while the other managed to escape. The incident occurred near Mora Street at around 11:10 a.m., with the suspect fleeing the scene. As of 11:30 a.m., no arrests had been made.

The targeted postal workers did not suffer any physical injuries, and the Postal Inspectors are working closely with local management to support the affected employees. Assistant US Postal Inspector in Charge David Reardon stated that an attempt was made to rob a second letter carrier.

Eyewitness Joseph Donald recounted seeing the thief approach a mail carrier on Fuller Street. The thief demanded the mail carrier’s postal box master key but then suddenly got nervous and fled the scene. Donald described the thief as wearing a black outfit. Cameras from 7NEWS captured the postal worker entering his car and being escorted to a local post office to meet with postal inspectors.

Reardon emphasized that the investigation was in its early stages and urged anyone with information to contact the Postal Inspection Service. The number provided for reporting information is 1-877-876-2455, with callers asked to select Option 2.

This incident is part of a concerning trend, as there have been multiple armed robberies of postal workers in recent months, including one in Nashua, New Hampshire earlier this month. In December of last year, a postal worker was robbed at gunpoint in Dorchester, specifically in the area of Talbot and Welles Avenue. Prior to that, similar robberies occurred in Medford and Mattapan in October 2023.

The community has expressed their shock and concern over these incidents. Latricia Stokes, who witnessed one of the crime scenes on Friday, voiced her distress, saying, “I just don’t understand why they would do that to him.” Stokes added that it is essential for the community to feel safe when receiving mail or when the mailman is on duty.

As the investigation continues, residents are hoping for swift action to ensure the safety of postal workers and the community at large.
