Hunter Biden’s Defense Wraps Up Federal Firearm Trial as Proceedings Come to a Close

Family Support and Witness Testimonies in Hunter Biden’s Federal Firearm Trial

The federal firearm trial of Hunter Biden, the first son of President Biden, is nearing its end as his defense attorneys prepare to wrap up their case. Lead defense attorney Abbe Lowell has called three witnesses so far, including Hunter’s eldest daughter, Naomi. It remains uncertain whether Hunter himself or any other witnesses will testify for the defense. One potential witness, James “Jimmy” Biden, was seen in the courthouse but was not called to the stand. The defense also revealed that they would not present an independent expert to challenge forensic chemist Dr. Jason Brewer’s testimony regarding the cocaine residue found on the pouch where Hunter’s sister-in-law disposed of the Colt Cobra revolver.

While the defense concludes its case, prosecutors from special counsel David Weiss’ office may call one more rebuttal witness if they deem it necessary. Throughout the trial, there has been a strong presence of family members in attendance. First lady Jill Biden has been present for every day of the trial except for one, when she traveled to France with President Biden for D-Day commemorations. Hunter’s half-sister Ashley and the president’s sister Valerie Biden Owens, as well as Jill’s sister Bonny Jacobs, have also been constant presences in the courtroom. President Biden himself released a written statement on the first day of the trial, expressing his love and support for Hunter while maintaining that he would not comment on pending federal cases.

In a recent interview with ABC’s David Muir, President Biden affirmed that he would accept the outcome of the trial if Hunter is convicted and stated that he would not use his pardon power to overturn a conviction. As the trial proceeds on Monday, Judge Maryellen Noreika is expected to rule on various motions, including the defense’s request to dismiss the case. Afterward, Abbe Lowell will likely conclude his presentation. If there are no rebuttal witnesses called by the prosecution, both sides will proceed to closing arguments. The government lawyers spent 30 minutes on their opening statement, while Lowell required 50 minutes. Depending on the timing of the arguments, the jury could begin deliberations as early as Monday afternoon to determine whether Hunter Biden violated any laws.
