Houston’s Magic Island to Reopen this Summer as Exciting Party and Gambling Venue after 10 Years

Houston’s Magic Island, an iconic Egyptian-themed building that has been abandoned for the past 10 years, is set to make a comeback this summer as an exciting party and gambling venue. Located along the I-69 Southwest Freeway feeder road near Greenbriar Drive, Magic Island was once a popular destination for Vegas-style magic shows, dining, and entertainment.

Originally opening its doors in 1984, Magic Island was forced to close after Hurricane Ike and a subsequent fire. However, the pharaoh’s head at the top of the building has remained a recognizable landmark for Houstonians. Now, after a decade of vacancy, the club is ready to reclaim its glory.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Magic Island will take advantage of a loophole in Texas law that allows establishments to host gambling games as long as they do not take a cut of the wagered money. Instead, the venue will charge patrons a membership fee for using the facilities. Black Club members will have access to private gambling tables where they can enjoy poker, blackjack, and roulette in a bespoke room.

In addition to private gambling, Magic Island has undergone renovations to transform it into an ideal venue for events and gatherings. The outdoor patio has been refurbished and now features a retractable awning, making it suitable for both daytime and evening affairs. The new general manager, Michael Loneman, believes that the venue’s picturesque setting will be a hit with social media enthusiasts. Loneman stated, “Most restaurants in this area are not facing the right way. When it comes to engagements and special events, you’ll get a lot of great pictures because of the sunset. Plus, when you’re coming down the freeway, there’s no better form of advertising than to look over and see people dancing and having fun.”

Magic Island is aiming for a summer opening and is already accepting holiday bookings starting in July. The anticipation for its reopening is high, as Houstonians eagerly await the return of this once-beloved entertainment hotspot.

As the pharaoh’s head continues to peer over the freeway, a symbol of resilience and rebirth, Houston’s Magic Island promises to bring back the glamour and excitement that it was renowned for. With its unique blend of party atmosphere, private gambling, and stunning views, this historic venue is poised to become the city’s hottest destination once again. Prepare to immerse yourself in the magic of Houston’s Magic Island this summer.
