Tragedy Strikes as Plane Crashes on Florida Highway
In a shocking turn of events, a Holliston family found themselves in the midst of a terrifying accident on a Florida highway. Peggy Galvin, visiting from Holliston, was driving a rental car with her sister and daughter when they witnessed a sight that would haunt them forever – a plane hurtling towards them from behind. The incident occurred on Interstate 75 near Naples, Florida, when a Bombardier Challenger 600, en route to the Naples Airport, made an unplanned emergency landing on the highway. The Galvin family was driving a rental Nissan SUV when their worst nightmare unfolded before their eyes. “My daughter just happened to look in the rear window and said ‘Mom, brace for impact’,” shared Peggy Galvin, recounting the horrifying moment. “I initially thought I was hit by a truck or something because the impact was so severe. I didn’t realize it was a plane.”
The collision resulted in significant damage to two vehicles, including Galvin’s SUV. The plane crashed into a wall and immediately burst into flames. “It just sent us from side to side on the road,” Galvin recalled. “It was such a scary, scary thing.” Miraculously, Galvin and her passengers escaped unharmed, but unfortunately, both pilots on board the ill-fated plane lost their lives in the crash. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office tentatively identified the victims as pilot Edward Daniel Murphy and second-in-command Ian Frederick Hofmann.
