‘General Hospital’ Confirms Avery Pohl’s Exit and Brutal Yacht Death of Esme

Port Charles Says Goodbye to Avery Pohl as Esme Prince Exits General Hospital

Avery Pohl, known for her role as Esme Prince on the long-running soap opera General Hospital, has officially left the show after her character was presumed dead. The confirmation came from a spokesperson for General Hospital, as reported by Soap Opera Digest.

Esme’s departure occurred on the recent episode of General Hospital, where she met her fate while attempting to murder her ex-boyfriend Spencer Cassadine and his new girlfriend Trina Robinson on a yacht in Paris. In a dramatic turn of events, Spencer and Esme fell overboard while wrestling with each other as Spencer tried to save Trina.

Pohl expressed her satisfaction with playing a villainous character, stating, “At the end of the day, my job is to help tell a story and to entertain people, and if people are entertained by the fact that they love to loathe me, then I guess my job is done!” (Soap Opera Digest)

On the other hand, Nicholas Chavez’s departure from the show doesn’t come as a surprise, as he is preparing to star in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. However, TV Insider reports that there is still a possibility for Chavez’s character to return to General Hospital in the future.

Pohl made her debut on General Hospital in August 2021 as Spencer’s girlfriend. It was later revealed that Esme was the biological daughter of serial killers Ryan Chamberlain and Heather Webber. Her character’s unhinged nature became evident when she released revenge porn footage of Cameron and Josslyn and framed Trina for it.

Despite their characters’ conflicts on-screen, Pohl and Tabyana Ali, who portrays Trina, have a close friendship off-screen. Ali mentioned in an interview with Soap Opera Digest that they live near each other and frequently hang out. She expressed her sadness about not seeing Pohl at work anymore but reassured that they will still stay in touch.

General Hospital airs on weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on ABC, with new episodes available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
