Free Gas Giveaway for Veterans and Honda Owners in Southern California

The Helpful Honda Team of SoCal is known for their random acts of helpfulness, and this past weekend they surprised Honda drivers, veterans, and active military personnel with free gas. This initiative comes just in time for Memorial Day weekend, when a record number of drivers are expected to hit the road. The Helpful Honda Team, which has been active for 17 years, travels around Southern California, focusing on helping communities, especially during holidays.

At the Mobil Burbank Gas & Mart station on North Glenoaks Boulevard, a Honda team member was waving at traffic and welcoming those who qualified for the free fill-up. Many veterans took advantage of this opportunity, expressing their gratitude for the gesture. Navy veteran M.J. Barnett, who noticed the gas giveaway while driving her daughter’s VW Beetle convertible, shared that the full tank of gas would be a gift for her youngest daughter who was graduating that day. She expressed her appreciation for the recognition and support shown by corporations like Honda.

Another veteran, Fred Ortega, a Vietnam veteran, described the free gas as “wonderful” and expressed his gratitude towards Honda for their kindness towards veterans. This initiative has left a positive impact on the community by showing appreciation to those who have served their country.

The Helpful Honda Team has more stations planned for free gas giveaways in Culver City on Friday and in Huntington Beach on Memorial Day. This generous initiative comes at a time when gas prices in California are dropping. According to the Southern California Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch, prices have been decreasing for five consecutive weeks. Some areas are offering gas for about $4.50 a gallon or less. This drop in prices is a welcome relief for travelers as Southern California anticipates an all-time record number of people hitting the road this Memorial Day weekend.

The average price for a regular gallon of gas in California reached $5.16 on May 23, nearly two cents lower than the previous day. In Los Angeles and Long Beach, the average price was $5.11. However, despite the drop in prices, California still has some of the highest gas prices in the country. The national average price was $3.61 a gallon, according to the American Automobile Association.

The Auto Club forecasts a record-breaking 38.4 million drivers hitting the road for the long weekend ahead. It will be interesting to see if this year’s summer driving season bucks the trend of a surge in demand that typically leads to higher pump prices. Andrew Gross, an AAA spokesperson, noted that the pandemic has affected the usual patterns of demand during the summer driving season.

In conclusion, the Helpful Honda Team’s free gas giveaway for veterans and Honda owners in Southern California has not only provided practical assistance but also demonstrated appreciation for those who have served their country. This initiative comes at a time when gas prices are dropping, offering some relief for travelers preparing for Memorial Day weekend. The generosity shown by Honda and their commitment to community support is commendable and greatly appreciated by those who benefit from their acts of helpfulness.
