Fisher-Price Recalls Dumbbell Toys for Choking Hazard – How to Get a Refund

Hundreds of thousands of Fisher-Price dumbbell toys are being recalled due to a potential choking hazard. The recall was announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Thursday, stating that the dumbbell toys were included in the Fisher-Price Baby Biceps Gift Set. In the United States, approximately 366,200 units were sold, with an additional 37,850 sold in Canada.

The reason for the recall is that the gray caps on the dumbbell toys can separate, posing a choking hazard for infants. Fisher-Price advises parents to immediately take away the recalled toys from their children. The CPSC notes that the dumbbell toys were sold between April 2020 and August 2024 as part of the Baby Biceps Gift Set, which also includes three other toys and is marketed for children ages 3 months and up.

The dumbbell component of the toy set consists of a plastic gray bar and red and orange plastic “weights” with gray caps on each side. To identify the recalled toys, consumers can look for the model number GJD49 on the back of the kettlebell toy in the gift set. These toys were manufactured in China and Vietnam and were sold in various stores across the U.S., including Buy Buy Baby, Fred Meyer, Hobby Lobby, Kohls, Marshalls, Target, TJMaxx, Walmart, and online retailers such as Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and Zulily.com. The toys were priced at around $18.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries resulting from the incidents with the gray caps separating from the toy. However, Fisher-Price has received seven reports of such incidents. As a safety precaution, the company is offering customers a $10 refund for the recalled dumbbell toys. The refund can be requested on Fisher-Price’s recall website, where customers can also find instructions on how to properly dispose of the toys. It’s worth noting that a receipt or proof of purchase is not required to receive a refund for the dumbbell toy.

In conclusion, Fisher-Price’s recall of the dumbbell toys from the Baby Biceps Gift Set is a necessary step to ensure the safety of infants. By promptly removing the recalled toys from the market and offering refunds to customers, Fisher-Price demonstrates its commitment to child safety. Parents are urged to take immediate action and visit Fisher-Price’s recall website for further information on obtaining a refund and disposing of the toys.
