Fire Destroys Apartment Complex in North Houston, Leaving Families Displaced
HOUSTON, Texas – An apartment complex in north Houston was engulfed in flames on Sunday evening, forcing several families to seek alternative accommodation, according to officials.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. at the Serena Village Apartments on Greens Road near Imperial Valley, as reported by Houston fire investigators.
A total of 18 units were affected, with six completely burned and the remaining 12 suffering from smoke and water damage.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as residents managed to escape the building. However, they were left devastated as they watched their homes being consumed by the fire.
Laura Sandoval, one of the displaced residents, recounted the terrifying experience, saying, “I looked up and saw so much smoke and fire coming from the roof, so I started yelling and telling my family to get out.”
Sandoval expressed uncertainty about the condition of her apartment and whether she would ever be able to return. She added, “We don’t know what to do because we don’t have a place to stay or water or food.”
Another resident, Destiny Godfrey, a mother of two young boys, shared her distress, stating, “I lost everything. My kids lost everything.”
Fire Under Control
The Houston Fire Department received multiple 911 calls when the fire broke out. Although they initially faced water supply issues, they were able to bring the fire under control.
District Chief Mattew Corso explained, “People were home. We had bystanders everywhere, so once we kind of got everything situated, everything set up, we were able to get everything knocked down pretty quick.”
Investigation Underway
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire at Serena Village Apartments.
The Red Cross has stepped in to assist those who have been displaced by the fire, providing them with immediate support.
Meanwhile, Laura Sandoval has started a GoFundMe campaign to help her family rebuild their lives after the devastating incident.
