Delta Air Lines is set to open its newest and most exclusive airport lounge, the Delta One Lounge, at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. This lounge is specifically designed for customers flying in the Delta One cabin, which is the airline’s highest tier of service. The lounge aims to attract top-paying customers and offers a range of amenities and services to enhance the travel experience.
The Delta One Lounge spans over 39,000 square feet and features a high-end restaurant, a quick-bite bakery, and a walk-up food counter. It also boasts a full bar and a terrace that overlooks the airfield. What sets this lounge apart from Delta’s more accessible Sky Club lounges is the addition of new relaxation areas. Travelers can enjoy complimentary spa treatments for their eyes, hands, and arms, as well as a 10-minute shoulder, scalp, and temple massage called the “recovery remedy.” For those in need of a quick refresh, there are eight shower suites equipped with robes and slippers. Delta even offers a steaming service where travelers can leave their clothes to be steamed by staff within minutes.
Work-oriented travelers will appreciate the eight soundproof booths available in the lounge. These booths provide a quiet space for productivity. In total, the lounge can accommodate up to 515 people at once.
Delta’s decision to open the Delta One Lounge follows in the footsteps of American Airlines and United Airlines, both of which already offer dedicated lounges for their long-haul business or first-class passengers. By introducing these new amenities, Delta hopes to attract more flyers to its Delta One cabin.
According to Dwight James, Delta’s senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty, the average age of SkyMiles members has decreased from 44 in 2017 to 39 in 2022. This shift reflects the airline’s efforts to appeal to younger travelers who aspire to experience premium service.
While the exact investment in the Delta One Lounge remains undisclosed, Delta has acknowledged the issue of overcrowding in its other Sky Club lounges. To address this, the airline implemented stricter entry requirements last year but later walked back some of these measures. James believes that the opening of the Delta One Lounge will alleviate overcrowding issues and improve the overall lounge experience for customers.
In addition to Delta One ticket holders, the lounge will also welcome travelers with the exclusive “360” status, which is invite-only and reserved for a select few. Passengers flying in equivalent cabins on Delta’s partner airlines will also have access to the lounge.
Looking ahead, Delta plans to open Delta One lounges in Boston and Los Angeles later this year. The company is also exploring the possibility of introducing Delta One lounges in other cities, such as Atlanta and Seattle.
