Elon Musk Announces X’s Long-Form Videos Coming Soon to Smart TVs

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, has recently announced that long-form videos will soon be available on smart televisions through his social network platform, X. This news comes after Fortune magazine reported that X plans to launch a TV app for Amazon and Samsung users next week. Musk had previously expressed his intentions to turn X into a super app, offering various services from messaging to peer-to-peer payments.

In response to a user’s posting about the possibility of watching long-form videos directly on smart TVs, Musk simply stated, “Coming soon.” Although X has already rolled out an early version of video and audio calling for select users last October, this new development is expected to significantly expand the platform’s capabilities.

Fortune magazine speculates that the TV app could resemble Google’s popular YouTube app. While no official details have been released about the app’s features, an unidentified source claims that Musk is determined to compete with YouTube in the video streaming market. It remains to be seen how X will differentiate itself from other established platforms in this highly competitive industry.

X has faced challenges in retaining advertisers since Musk acquired it in 2022. However, in an effort to become a “video-first platform,” X has been forming partnerships with influential figures in the media industry. These include former Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and former CNN anchor Don Lemon. By collaborating with well-known personalities, X aims to attract more advertisers and regain its footing in the advertising market.

Last month, X announced that it would allow advertisers to run video ads alongside content created by specific creators. This move indicates X’s commitment to providing monetization opportunities for content creators while also offering targeted advertising options for brands.

Despite controversies and difficulties, Elon Musk’s vision for X as a multi-functional platform seems to be taking shape. With the forthcoming TV app and the focus on video content, X aims to capture a significant share of the growing video streaming market. As Musk continues to innovate and expand X’s capabilities, it will be interesting to see how this platform evolves and competes with established giants like YouTube.
