Disturbed Queens Man Accused of Attempting to Drown Twin Toddlers at Connecticut Beach

Attempted Drowning Incident: Disturbed Father Held on $2 Million Bail

A disturbing incident unfolded at a Connecticut beach over the weekend, as a Queens man was arrested for allegedly attempting to drown his twin toddlers. The suspect, Romney Desronvil, appeared in court on Monday where he was ordered to be held on $2 million bail. The harrowing incident occurred on Saturday morning when Desronvil, 41, allegedly tried to drown his 3-year-old twins at the beach in West Haven.

The heroic actions of West Haven police saved the frightened children from a watery grave. The mayor of West Haven, Dorinda Borer, expressed her shock and disbelief at the incident, calling it “unthinkable.” Desronvil reportedly confessed to the police that he attempted to drown his children due to his tumultuous relationship with their mother.

In an effort to support the children’s mother during this difficult time, Mayor Borer personally visited her at the hospital. The mother had rushed from New York to be with her children and has been by their side around the clock. Mayor Borer assured her that the community is there for her and will provide any assistance she needs, whether it’s accommodation, meals, clothing, or emotional support.

Thankfully, a recent update from the police indicates that both children are doing well. They have made significant improvements and are no longer intubated. While they are still under the care of medical staff, their condition is progressing daily. The community has been asked to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

The incident unfolded when a vigilant West Haven police officer spotted Desronvil’s SUV parked on the beach in the early hours of Saturday morning. The officer heard significant screaming and immediately realized something was amiss. Approaching the scene, he found Desronvil in the water holding his two children. Concerned for their safety, the officer called for backup and went after the children, pulling them away from their father and onto the shore.

Both children were rushed to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, where they are currently in critical condition. Three West Haven officers involved in the rescue sustained minor injuries during the incident.

According to records released on Monday, Desronvil admitted to taking the children to the beach due to issues in his relationship with their mother. He claimed to have found “witchcraft material” in her possession, but no further details were provided. Desronvil’s attorney declined to comment after the court proceedings.

This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of early intervention and support for individuals experiencing relationship difficulties or mental health issues. It also highlights the bravery and dedication of law enforcement officers who put themselves at risk to protect innocent lives. The community continues to rally around the children and their mother, offering their support and prayers during this difficult time.
