Disney to Move Away from Slack for Internal Communication Following Data Leak

The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will no longer be using Slack for internal company communication. This decision comes after a recent hack that resulted in over a terabyte of company data being leaked to the public. The company had already been in the process of transitioning to new collaboration tools, but now it has officially notified its employees and cast members that most of its business units will move away from Slack usage by the end of Disney’s next fiscal quarter.

The hack, which occurred during the summer, exposed a range of sensitive information including financial data, computer codes, and details about unreleased projects. Despite the breach, Disney assured its investors that it did not expect the incident to have a significant impact on its operations or financial performance.

The move away from Slack is part of Disney’s efforts to enhance the security of its internal communications. While the company has not provided specific details about the new collaboration tools it will be using, the decision to transition away from Slack suggests that Disney is seeking a more secure and reliable platform.

In response to the news, representatives from Disney and Salesforce, the owner of Slack, have not yet commented. However, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff recently spoke about the importance of security measures in preventing such hacks. During an interview at the company’s annual Dreamforce conference, Benioff stated, “Our security is rock-solid… Companies also have to take the right measures to prevent phishing attacks and to lock down their employees’ social engineering. So, we can do our part, but our customers also have to do their part.”

Despite the decision to move away from Slack for internal communication, Disney will continue to use Salesforce products in other aspects of its business, such as its Disney store, Disney guides, sales and service operations, and call centers. This highlights the trust and confidence that Disney still has in Salesforce’s offerings.

By taking steps to improve its internal communication security, Disney is demonstrating its commitment to protecting sensitive company information. This move serves as a reminder to all organizations of the importance of implementing robust security measures and staying vigilant against potential cyber threats.
