Delta Air Lines and Riyadh Air Partner to Launch Nonstop Service from the US to Saudi Arabia

Delta Air Lines and Riyadh Air recently announced a strategic partnership that will result in the launch of nonstop flights between the United States and Saudi Arabia. The deal, signed on July 9, designates Delta as Riyadh Air’s exclusive partner in North America, granting customers access to a wide range of U.S. destinations. Although the exact date for the commencement of these nonstop flights has not been disclosed, Delta plans to operate nonstop service from the United States to King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. One notable aspect of this partnership is the potential for “codeshare connectivity.” This means that Delta Airlines and Riyadh Air will be able to sell tickets for each other’s flights, creating a seamless travel experience for passengers. Riyadh Air, established in 2023, is supported by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund. It serves as a second national airline alongside Saudia (formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines), which is headquartered in Jeddah. While no U.S. airline currently operates flights to Saudi Arabia, Saudia provides nonstop service between Saudi Arabia and New York, Dulles International Airport, and Los Angeles.

This partnership comes at a time when Saudi Arabia is actively working to position itself as an attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers. The country has invested a substantial amount of money, approximately $800 billion, into the tourism sector, focusing on the development of luxury resorts and tourist attractions.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing that it aligns with the airline’s mission of connecting the world. He believes this collaboration will provide new choices, benefits, and destinations for Delta’s customers traveling to and from Saudi Arabia.
