Deer Park High School Student Performs National Anthem in Sign Language at College Football Playoff National Championship

HOUSTON, Texas – William Stokes, an 18-year-old student from Deer Park High School, had a memorable experience at the College Football Playoff National Championship. He was chosen to perform the national anthem in American Sign Language during the event.

A Dream Come True

Stokes was ecstatic about the opportunity and still can’t believe it happened. He explained that his deaf education teacher nominated him for the audition, and shortly after, he received the surprising news at home that he had been selected.

Meeting Fantasia

Prior to the performance, Stokes had the chance to meet Fantasia, the winner of American Idol. He described her as incredibly kind and friendly.

A Proud Moment

Performing in front of a large audience and on a global stage for the College Football Playoffs was nerve-wracking for Stokes. However, he expressed pride in his signing skills and felt a great sense of accomplishment.
