Winter Storm Expected to Bring Decreased Snowfall to Massachusetts

A winter storm is set to hit Massachusetts on Tuesday, but recent changes in its trajectory have led to downgraded snowfall predictions for certain areas. The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings and Watches for much of the state, with some areas expected to receive up to a foot of snow.

However, the storm’s projected path has shifted, leading to revised estimates throughout the day on Monday. The latest snow map predicts that the Cape will receive 6 to 9 inches, while the south coast is expected to bear the brunt of the storm with a predicted 9 to 12 inches. Metro Boston and Western Mass. can anticipate 3 to 6 inches of snow, with higher amounts to the south of the Pike. Northern Mass. and southern New Hampshire are slated to receive 1 to 3 inches.

Utility companies, such as Eversource and National Grid, have been closely monitoring the storm and are preparing for potential power outages. Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations, Craig Hallstrom, emphasized the need for caution due to the heavy, wet snow that can weigh down tree limbs and branches, potentially causing damage to power lines and equipment. Eversource has stationed extra staff and equipment across the state to ensure a swift and safe response to any outages.

Similarly, National Grid has crews and personnel in place across Massachusetts to address any impacts from the storm. Tim Moore, National Grid Vice President of Electric Operations for New England, stressed their readiness to restore service as quickly as possible while acknowledging the challenges posed by heavy snow and strong winds.

As the storm approaches, it is important for residents to stay informed about the latest weather updates. WHDH 7News will provide on-air and online coverage to keep the community updated on any developments or changes in the storm’s trajectory. Additionally, residents are urged to take precautions and make necessary preparations for potential travel difficulties and power outages.

While the snowfall predictions have been downgraded for certain areas, it is crucial to remain vigilant and prepared as winter storms can be unpredictable. By staying informed and heeding the advice of utility companies, residents can navigate the challenges posed by this winter storm and ensure their safety and well-being throughout its duration.
