Panthers Owner David Tepper Allegedly Throws Drink at Fan During Game
Panthers owner David Tepper was caught on video appearing to throw a drink at a fan during a recent game. The incident took place towards the end of the game, where Tepper can be seen tossing the beverage in a plastic cup and flipping it against a countertop before walking away. It is unclear what prompted Tepper’s actions, but the video shows a fan standing on their chair and angrily looking towards Tepper’s suite.
The video was originally posted on Instagram with the caption, “When the @panthers owner throws a drink on @jaguars fans!!!!” It quickly gained attention, with multiple Panthers beat reporters sharing the footage. A reporter from The Athletic reached out to the team and league for comment on the incident.
In response to the video, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy stated, “We are aware of the video and have no further comment at this time.” This suggests that the league is investigating the incident.
This is not the first controversy surrounding Tepper this season. Earlier in the year, he made a coaching change by firing head coach Frank Reich after 11 games. Additionally, Charlotte Observer columnist Scott Fowler claimed to have been “frozen out of asking a question” during Tepper’s press conference about the team’s moves.
Before the game, another video surfaced showing Tepper on the field greeting a fan. The fan held up a sign that read, “2-13, I never missed a game,” acknowledging the team’s poor record.
Despite their 2-14 season, the Panthers do not hold the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. They traded up to select Bryce Young as the No. 1 overall pick in April. In their recent game against the Jaguars, Young struggled, completing 19-of-32 passes for 112 yards and an interception. The Jaguars capitalized on Travis Etienne’s touchdowns to secure a victory, despite Trevor Lawrence’s absence due to a shoulder injury.
