Beloved actor David Soul, best known for his role as detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson in the popular 1970s television series “Starsky & Hutch,” has died at the age of 80.

His wife, Helen Snell, announced the sad news on Friday, stating that Soul passed away after a courageous battle surrounded by his loving family.

Remembered as a multi-talented individual, Soul’s wife described him as an actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist, and dear friend. She emphasized his infectious smile, laughter, and zest for life that touched the lives of many.

A Crime-Fighting Icon

David Soul gained fame for his portrayal of detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson alongside Paul Michael Glaser as detective David Starsky in the hit TV series “Starsky & Hutch.” The show aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979 and became immensely popular, even inspiring a range of children’s toys.

Beyond the small screen, Soul also achieved success in the music industry with his hit single “Don’t Give Up on Us” during the peak of his fame.

A Versatile Performer

Having lived in Britain for many years, Soul showcased his talent in various stage roles. In 2001, he even won a libel case against a journalist who criticized a play called “The Dead Monkey,” in which Soul was involved, without actually seeing it.

Soul’s versatility extended to his portrayal of the titular talk-show host in “Jerry Springer – The Opera” in London’s West End.

In a nostalgic nod to the original series, Soul and Glaser made cameo appearances in the 2004 big-screen adaptation of “Starsky & Hutch,” starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.
