David Peterson Shines as Mets Defeat Rangers 14-2

David Peterson’s strong performances on the mound have silenced any calls for Kodai Senga to take his place in the Mets’ rotation. While Senga is still recovering from a shoulder strain and is expected to throw a bullpen session this week, Peterson has stepped up and given the team a chance to win in each of his four starts.

In their recent game against the Texas Rangers, Peterson was given a comfortable seven-run lead in the second inning. He made the most of it, pitching six innings and only allowing two earned runs on four hits. With six strikeouts and three walks, Peterson’s performance helped secure the Mets’ 14-2 victory.

Peterson’s success is even more impressive considering he started the season on the injured list after undergoing hip surgery. Since returning, he has maintained a 3.97 ERA in his four starts off the injured list, and the Mets have won three out of those four games.

While Peterson had a strong outing, he did give up a two-run homer to Robbie Grossman in the third inning. Aside from that, he was able to limit the Rangers’ offense and keep them from mounting a comeback.

In terms of the lineup, both Starling Marte and Harrison Bader were given a rest day on the bench. This decision was made to keep their legs fresher on the artificial turf. Tyrone Taylor and DJ Stewart filled in for them in the outfield and contributed to the team’s victory.

In other news, Brooks Raley, who recently underwent season-ending elbow surgery, is with the team and will be present during their series against the Rangers. Raley, a Dallas area resident, will be able to support his teammates despite not being able to play.

On the offensive side, J.D. Martinez extended his streak of reaching base to 11 consecutive plate appearances with a single in the first inning. While he was retired in his next at-bat, Martinez is inching closer to the club record of 15 consecutive plate appearances reaching base, set by John Olerud in 1998.

Overall, the Mets have been on a hot streak, winning 10 out of their last 12 games. When asked about his players’ demeanor during this successful stretch, coach Carlos Mendoza praised the team’s tight-knit atmosphere. He highlighted their support for each other on and off the field, noting that even during difficult times, they continue to come together and maintain a loose and positive atmosphere.

Lastly, former Mets pitcher Dillon Gee made an appearance before the game with his family. Living nearby, Gee attends one game per season and decided to see two of his former teams play. The Mets’ last visit to Texas was in 2017.

In conclusion, David Peterson’s strong performances have solidified his place in the Mets’ rotation. With impressive outings and solid support from the lineup, the team has been on a winning streak. As they continue to support each other and maintain a positive atmosphere, the Mets look poised for continued success.
