Located at 765 Sawdust Rd., just west of I-45, CubeSmart Self Storage was engulfed in smoke as firefighters worked tirelessly to contain and extinguish the flames. The fire reportedly originated on the second floor of the building, leading to extensive damage throughout.

The response to the scene was immense, with multiple fire departments and a total of over 100 firefighters working together to combat the fire. At one point, there were nine ladder trucks and 22 engines present. The sheer scale of the operation highlights the complexity and intensity of the blaze.

One of the challenges faced by firefighters was gaining access to each individual storage unit. Using bolt cutters or saws to cut through the metal, they had to break into each unit to ensure that no flames were left unchecked. Assistant Chief Joseph Leggio estimated that approximately 25% of the top floor sustained damage from the fire. Additionally, there will be significant water damage throughout the building due to the firefighting efforts. The extent of this water damage is still uncertain, but it is clear that a sizable portion of the facility has been affected.

During the operation, two firefighters sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. Thankfully, no hazardous materials were encountered within the storage units, allowing firefighters to proceed with caution without additional risks.
