Crystal Lowe Shares Brave Battle with Stage 3 Breast Cancer and Inspiring Support from Hallmark Family

In a poignant revelation, Canadian actress Crystal Lowe, known for her roles in Hallmark films, has opened up about her recent diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer. In an essay published by a prominent magazine, Lowe described her health journey as “scary, strange, and humbling,” offering readers a glimpse into the emotional and physical turmoil that accompanies such a diagnosis.

Lowe’s harrowing journey began in February when she discovered a large mass in her right breast. Initially, routine tests, including a mammogram and an ultrasound, failed to detect any abnormalities, leaving her with a false sense of security. However, as the months progressed, the mass grew to an alarming size of 10 centimeters, and she noticed further changes, such as an inversion of her nipple. This prompted her to undergo a blind biopsy, which ultimately confirmed her worst fears: she had been diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, a form of breast cancer that originates in the milk ducts and can spread to surrounding tissues.

Reflecting on the moment she received the news, Lowe recounted, “I still remember getting off the phone, curling up into a ball, and just bawling.” Her initial assumption that she was facing stage 2 cancer was shattered when she learned in August that the cancer had progressed to stage 3. This form of cancer can often require aggressive treatment, and Lowe shared the daunting reality of what lay ahead: “Essentially, I’m looking at the whole deal: chemo, double mastectomy, radiation, and eventually, implants… As someone who’s never had any major illness, it was a lot to digest.”

Despite the overwhelming nature of her diagnosis, Lowe has found solace and support from her colleagues in the entertainment industry. She acknowledged the kindness and encouragement she has received, stating, “Hollywood often gets a bad rap, but when you work with people who love you, they show up.” Specifically, she highlighted the support from her co-stars in the Hannah Swensen series, expressing gratitude for their willingness to adjust schedules to accommodate her treatment. “Alison Sweeney and Craig Baumgarten have shifted schedules so I may be able to direct the next one when my treatment is complete,” she noted.

Lowe also praised Jeff Schenck from Hybrid Entertainment, who not only provided her with wigs but also offered transportation to her medical appointments.
