Celtics secure narrow victory against Kings as Pritchard shines with 21 points – Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News

The Boston Celtics secured a narrow victory against the Sacramento Kings in an intense matchup on Friday night. The Celtics’ Payton Pritchard emerged as the star of the game, scoring 21 points, including five three-pointers. This win marked the Celtics’ 12th consecutive victory at home and solidified their position as the top team in the NBA.

Kristaps Porzingis also had an impressive performance for the Celtics, contributing 20 points and 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double. The Celtics have been on a hot streak lately, winning 13 of their last 15 games.

However, the Kings put up a strong fight, led by De’Aaron Fox who scored a remarkable 40 points. In the final seconds of the game, Fox banked in a go-ahead 26-footer, giving the Kings hope of stealing the victory. But the Celtics’ Xavier Tillman quickly responded, putting Boston back in front. Despite three potential game-winning shots from the Kings in the final seven seconds, they were unable to secure the win.

Domantas Sabonis also had a solid performance for the Kings, scoring 16 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. However, the loss marked their fourth in the last six games as they try to avoid a spot in the play-in tournament.

The Kings managed to cut a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to just two points, showing their determination and resilience. However, their efforts fell short as the Celtics held on for the narrow victory.

Both teams struggled offensively at the start of the game, with Boston shooting just 1 for 10 from the field and Sacramento opening 1 for 8. But the Celtics found their rhythm towards the end of the first quarter, connecting on nine of their final ten shots. Meanwhile, the Kings struggled to find their shot and finished the quarter shooting only 5 of 21.

The Celtics built a double-digit lead in the second quarter, but it was not without some luck. Payton Pritchard’s deep 28-footer bounced high off the back of the rim, clipped the front lip, and then rolled off the glass before falling in. This lucky shot showcased the Celtics’ determination to secure the win.

Unfortunately, the Celtics were without two of their key starters, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. Brown sat out due to a sprained left hand, which had also kept him out of a previous game. Coach Joe Mazzulla stated that Brown’s absence was a precautionary measure to manage the issue, and he did not anticipate Brown being sidelined for the rest of the regular season. White, who has been a consistent starter for the Celtics this season, was out with a bruised lower back.

Overall, the Celtics’ victory against the Kings showcased their resilience and ability to hold off a late charge. Payton Pritchard’s stellar performance, along with contributions from Kristaps Porzingis, played a significant role in securing the win. The Kings put up a valiant effort, with De’Aaron Fox’s impressive 40-point performance, but ultimately fell short. The Celtics continue to dominate at home and maintain their position as the top team in the NBA.
