Celtics Prepare for Game 3 Amid Uncertainty Over Kristaps Porzingis’ Injury

Final Preparations Underway as Celtics Head to Dallas for Game 3 of NBA Finals

As the Celtics gear up for Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Mavericks, there is uncertainty surrounding star forward Kristaps Porzingis. Despite Boston holding a 2-0 series lead after two wins at home, Porzingis’ status remains day-to-day, according to the team.

Porzingis had recently returned from a calf injury that kept him sidelined for several weeks. However, he is now dealing with a torn medial retinaculum and a dislocated posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg, which are unrelated to his previous injury. Despite these setbacks, Porzingis expressed determination, stating, “Nothing is going to stop me unless I’m told not to or not allowed to play.”

In light of Porzingis’ injury, Dr. David Chao, a former professional sports team physician, believes that the Celtics will need to adopt a “next man up” mentality. He expressed skepticism about Porzingis’ ability to play, stating, “If I were the team doctor and I would have seen that, I’d be telling the team, coaches, and management, ‘Don’t expect him to play.'” Dr. Chao speculates that Porzingis may be out for the remainder of the NBA Finals.

However, the Celtics remain hopeful that Porzingis will be able to contribute. Coach Joe Mazzulla emphasized the importance of prioritizing Porzingis’ well-being and not compromising his health. The team is prepared for any scenario and trusts that each player will step up if needed.

Celtics guard Derrick White acknowledged that if Porzingis is unable to play, someone else on the team will need to step up. He expressed confidence in the entire roster and their ability to rise to the occasion throughout the postseason. Celtics forward Jaylen Brown echoed this sentiment, stating, “Him on the floor, that just helps elevate us to a different level. But we’ve been priding ourselves on the ‘next man up’ mentality.”

While the Celtics hope for Porzingis’ swift recovery, they are prepared to face the Mavericks in Game 3 regardless of his availability. The team understands the importance of adapting and finding ways to win, even in challenging circumstances.

Tipoff for Game 3 is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. in Dallas, where the Celtics will continue their quest for the NBA championship.
