Carnival Ship Rescues Six Men from Capsized Vessel near Dominican Republic

Crew members from a Carnival ship assisted in rescuing six men from the ocean after a small cargo vessel capsized, and a passenger captured some of the rescue on camera. The incident occurred near the Dominican Republic early Wednesday morning, according to a statement by Carnival.

Rescue Caught on Camera

A woman posted a video of the rescue on TikTok, stating, “On the way to Amber Cove, the Carnival Vista rescued this life raft.” The footage shows the men stranded in the ocean and the Carnival ship approaching to save them. The person filming can be heard expressing their amazement at the situation.

Swift Response by Carnival Crew

Captain Paolo Severini, in command of the Carnival Vista at the time, immediately altered the ship’s course upon receiving an emergency alert through the onboard monitoring system. In coordination with Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami, the ship’s officers spotted the six men on a life raft and stopped to rescue them, bringing them on board, as stated by the cruise line.

Additional Crew Members Rescued

The Carnival team also learned of six additional crew members from the small cargo vessel who were in need of assistance. They promptly alerted US Coast Guard officials, who launched a search operation while the Carnival Vista continued its route to Amber Cove. The Coast Guard successfully rescued the additional six people.

Continuation of Cruise Itinerary

Carnival Vista is currently sailing a six-day itinerary and is expected to port at Grand Turk Island on Thursday, according to CruiseMapper. The ship is scheduled to return to Florida on Saturday.
