Man Drowns in Lake Outside SoFi Stadium, Second Death Since Opening
A tragic incident occurred at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., as a man drowned in the man-made lake surrounding the venue. This marks the second death to occur in the lake since the stadium opened in 2020.
Details of the Incident
The victim, an unidentified man in his early 20s, entered the lake around 9:30 p.m. on Friday but did not resurface. Inglewood Police Lt. Cilia Islas reported the incident to the LA Times. Authorities immediately dispatched a dive team to search the 15-foot-deep lake for the missing man.
Rescuers discovered the man’s body shortly before 11 p.m. CPR was administered in an attempt to revive him, but unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Condolences
Inglewood Police have launched an investigation into the man’s death, which is being treated as an accidental drowning. The victim’s name is currently being withheld by authorities.
SoFi Stadium officials expressed their sadness and extended their condolences to the individual’s family and friends. They stated, “Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
Past Incidents
This is not the first time a drowning has occurred in the lake outside SoFi Stadium. In July 2022, a 45-year-old man died after jumping into the artificial lake. Security guards had observed him hopping a fence in the stadium’s parking lot before entering the water.
The lake, known as “River Lake,” spans 6 acres and holds approximately 11 million gallons of water. It features multiple waterfalls and serves as an aesthetic addition to the stadium’s grounds.
It remains unclear whether the victim of the recent incident was attending the concert held by electronic musician Illenium at the stadium on Friday.
