California-Based Sleep Device Manufacturer Recalls Nearly a Million Power Adapters Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

California-based sleep device manufacturer, Hatch Baby Inc., has issued a recall for nearly a million power adapters that were included with their Rest 1st Generation sound machines. The recall was initiated due to a potential electrical shock hazard posed by the machine’s plastic housing, which can detach. The recall notice was posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website on July 3, 2024.

According to the notice, Hatch Baby Inc. received 19 reports of the plastic housing covering the power adapter coming off, with two cases involving consumers experiencing “a minor electrical shock.” The plastic housing can come off when removing the adapter from the power outlet, leaving the power prongs exposed and posing a risk to consumers.

The recalled power adapters, which were manufactured in China, were sold both online and at various stores across the United States. Approximately 920,000 units of the product were sold, with an additional 44,000 units sold in Canada. The affected power adapters have model number CYAP05 050100U and feature a white rectangular plastic housing that plugs directly into the wall socket.

Hatch Baby Inc. has taken steps to address the issue and ensure consumer safety. In a statement on their website, they announced that they are no longer sourcing power adapters from China-based Jiangsu Chenyang Electron, the company responsible for manufacturing the recalled adapters. Hatch Baby Inc. emphasized that their current power adapter manufacturing partners exceed industry safety standards.

To replace the recalled power adapter, consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product and contact Hatch Baby Inc. for a free replacement. To do so, customers should unplug and cut the cord on the recalled adapters, take a photo of the device showing the model number and cut cord, upload the picture, and provide their name and mailing address through the website www.hatch.co/adapterrecall.
