Britney Spears Reacts to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Weird” VMAs Performance

Britney Spears recently shared her thoughts on Sabrina Carpenter’s debut performance at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). Although Spears admitted that she didn’t watch the show, she saw some clips on her phone from YouTube. One particular aspect of Carpenter’s performance puzzled her – the moment when Carpenter kissed an alien on stage. Spears found it strange and questioned why Carpenter didn’t choose to kiss a girl instead, referencing her own iconic kiss with Madonna at the 2003 VMAs.

Despite her confusion over the performance, Spears expressed her adoration for Carpenter and her music. She mentioned that she loves Carpenter “to death” but didn’t understand the choice to kiss an alien. In the video, Spears also revealed her surprise when she learned that Carpenter had mentioned her name on the red carpet. Spears felt it was cool and appreciated Carpenter’s acknowledgement.

During Carpenter’s performance, she paid tribute to Spears in a few ways. She played the monologue from Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again” moments before taking the stage. Additionally, an astronaut appeared on stage, reminiscent of Spears’ 2000 music video. Carpenter wasn’t the only one honoring Spears that night – other pop musicians also paid tribute to the music legend. Tate McRae rocked a dress similar to the one Spears wore at the 2001 VMAs, while Megan Thee Stallion recreated Spears’ iconic “I’m a Slave 4 U” outfit from the same event.

Spears indirectly responded to the tributes by sharing a dancing video on social media and playfully acknowledging the VMAs. It’s worth noting that Spears hasn’t attended the VMAs since 2016.

Overall, Spears had mixed feelings about Carpenter’s performance at the VMAs. While she found certain aspects weird, she still expressed her admiration for Carpenter and appreciated the tribute paid to her. The VMAs provided a platform for artists to honor and celebrate Spears’ impact on the music industry.
