British Actor Tom Wilkinson, Known for “The Full Monty” and “Michael Clayton,” Dies at 75

LONDON, Calif. – Tom Wilkinson, the acclaimed British actor known for his roles in “The Full Monty,” “Michael Clayton,” and “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” passed away at the age of 75, according to a statement released by his family. Wilkinson’s agent confirmed that he died suddenly at his home on Saturday, although no further details were provided.

Wilkinson received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the 2001 family drama “In The Bedroom,” as well as a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 2007 film “Michael Clayton,” alongside George Clooney.

However, Wilkinson is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of former steel mill foreman Gerald Cooper in the 1997 comedy “The Full Monty,” which followed a group of unemployed steel workers who formed an unexpected male stripping act.

In addition to these notable films, Wilkinson appeared in numerous other movies, including “Batman Begins,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” and “Valkyrie.”

Recognized for his contributions to drama, Wilkinson was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire in 2005.
