The Great Bison Adventure: A Tale of Escape and Return
Three bison managed to break free from their confines at the 3B Ranch in North Branford, Connecticut, causing quite a stir in the local community. The escape took place on Sunday, and to make matters more interesting, one of the bison was pregnant and actually gave birth during their unplanned adventure. Amanda Maresca, whose family owns the farm, humorously referred to their escape as the bison going on “maternity leave,” adding a touch of lightheartedness to the situation.
The news of the bison’s escape quickly spread throughout the community, with locals sharing pictures and videos of the majestic creatures roaming freely in the Connecticut countryside. Maresca first found out about the escape from a friend who sent her a text saying, “I think everybody’s talking about your buffalo.” It seems that the bison had become somewhat of a local celebrity, captivating the attention and curiosity of many.
The bison, in their quest for freedom, managed to travel approximately six miles to the town of Guilford. The Guilford Police Department issued warnings to the public, advising them to stay away from the bison as they could potentially be unpredictable and “feisty.” However, despite the concerns, the bison eventually made their way back to the ranch on their own, with the baby bison in tow. They returned late Tuesday night, much to the relief of Maresca and her family.
This is not the first time the bison at the 3B Ranch have attempted a daring escape. In a previous incident, farm workers were able to entice the bison back into their enclosure by smearing molasses on trees, creating a trail for them to follow. Maresca recalls the relief she felt when the bison returned, stating, “We were glad, but we knew that they would come back. We really weren’t too worried.”
Now that the bison have safely returned, Maresca is seeking the public’s assistance in naming the baby bison. It’s an opportunity for the community to engage and participate in this extraordinary story, adding a sense of connection and involvement to the bison’s journey.
