Apple iPhone Audio Issues Settlement: Claim Your Payout of Up to $394

Apple has reached a $35 million settlement in a lawsuit filed against the company by consumers who purchased iPhone 7s and experienced audio issues with their devices. The settlement allows affected consumers to claim a payout ranging from $50 to $394. The lawsuit, known as Tubak et al v. Apple Inc, alleged that Apple concealed a material defect in the iPhones that caused audio features to become unresponsive.

According to the plaintiffs, Apple was aware of the audio defect but refused to repair the iPhones without charge when the issue manifested. Many iPhone owners reached out to Apple’s employees and agents to request a resolution, but the company either refused or failed to address the problem. As a result, the plaintiffs claimed they suffered losses due to Apple’s unfair and deceptive business practices.

The lawsuit argued that if the plaintiffs had known about the audio defects before purchasing the iPhone 7s, they either would not have bought them or would have paid significantly less. Despite denying the allegations and any wrongdoing, Apple agreed to settle the case for $35 million.

Customers who are eligible to claim from the settlement are those who purchased an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus affected by the microphone audio issues between September 16, 2016, and January 3, 2023, and either complained to Apple about the issue or paid for a repair or replacement. By participating in the settlement, individuals forfeit their right to sue Apple in a separate lawsuit regarding the alleged audio issues.

The payout amount varies depending on whether individuals paid Apple for repairs or replacements and whether they reported the issues to Apple. Those who paid for repairs or replacements will receive a payment of at least $50 and up to $349. Those who reported the issues but did not pay for repairs or replacements will receive up to $125.

To submit a claim, individuals must visit the settlement website before the June 3, 2024 deadline. They must indicate their preferred payment method (electronic check, ACH transfer, or physical check) and provide accurate contact or banking information. Those uncertain about their eligibility can find more information on the settlement website or contact the toll-free number provided.

The final hearing on the settlement is scheduled for July at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. This settlement provides affected consumers with an opportunity to receive compensation for their audio issues and holds Apple accountable for its alleged unfair and deceptive trade practices.
