Angel Reese Makes History with Back-to-Back 20-Rebound Games in the WNBA

Angel Reese, the standout rookie for the Chicago Sky, continues to make history in the WNBA. In a recent game against the Connecticut Sun, Reese recorded another impressive performance, grabbing 20 rebounds. This feat is even more remarkable considering that none of her teammates had as many rebounds as she did.

According to ESPN, Reese is the first player in WNBA history to have back-to-back games with 20 rebounds. The last time this was achieved was by NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal with the Orlando Magic in 1993. Tina Charles is the only other rookie in WNBA history to have multiple 20-rebound games in a season, accomplishing this in 2010.

Although Reese had a relatively low shooting percentage, going 3-for-12 from the field, she made up for it by going 7 of 8 from the free-throw line. She also contributed on the defensive end with two blocks. This performance adds to her impressive resume, which includes a WNBA record of 15 consecutive double-doubles earlier in the season.

Reese’s rebounding prowess has been a key factor in her bid for Rookie of the Year, a title she is contending against Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. With her fifth consecutive double-double and a season average of 13.6 points and 12.3 rebounds, Reese is making a compelling case for the award.

Not only is Reese dominating the boards, but she is also climbing up the all-time rebounding ranks in the WNBA. With 352 total rebounds this season, she currently sits in 12th place for most rebounds in a single season. She is just 52 rebounds away from surpassing Sylvia Fowles’ record of 404 boards set in 2018. If she maintains her current pace, Reese is on track to break Fowles’ record, especially with 12 games still remaining in the season.

Fowles’ record-breaking season also included an average of 11.9 rebounds per game, a record that Reese is also poised to break. Despite the loss against the Connecticut Sun, Reese’s individual achievements have helped the Chicago Sky remain in playoff contention, currently holding the eighth and final spot.

Angel Reese’s impact on the game goes beyond statistics. She is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in her rookie year, showcasing her dominance on the glass and making a strong case for Rookie of the Year. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Reese as she continues to make history in the WNBA.
