Analysts embrace Hilton’s new partnership with boutique chain, leading to stock surge

Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. has recently announced a new partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH), a group of 560 luxury boutique hotels across 90 countries. This exciting collaboration has led to a surge in Hilton’s stock, with analysts applauding the move.

Under the terms of the partnership, Hilton guests will now have the opportunity to book, earn, and redeem points for stays at SLH hotels. This expansion allows Hilton to offer its customers access to additional luxury accommodations in hundreds of new destinations. The complementary nature of SLH’s properties to Hilton’s existing network of hotels is seen as a significant advantage for both companies.

In addition to the positive news of the partnership, Hilton also reported a fourth-quarter profit beat. Despite a decrease in net income compared to the previous year, adjusted per-share earnings came in ahead of expectations. Revenue also rose, matching the consensus forecast. These results reflect Hilton’s ability to navigate the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and capitalize on the recovery in the travel industry.

The company’s CEO, Christopher J. Nassetta, highlighted the strong performance of Hilton’s openings throughout the year, with the fourth quarter seeing the highest number of openings in the company’s history. Nassetta attributed this success to positive trends in international and group travel, particularly an increase in small company meetings and convention demand. The December system-wide occupancy even reached peak levels seen in 2019 before the pandemic hit.

Looking ahead, Hilton expects continued growth in revenue per available room (RevPAR) and earnings per share (EPS) for 2024. The company anticipates a 2% to 4% increase in systemwide RevPAR on a currency-neutral basis. Hilton also plans to return $3 billion to shareholders in 2024 through buybacks and dividends.

Analysts from Melius Research praised Hilton’s performance, noting that the company has effectively capitalized on opportunities for growth despite the challenging market conditions. They specifically highlighted Hilton’s successful partnerships, such as the one with SLH, as a key factor in its success. With room growth outpacing industry supply, Hilton has gained pricing power, resulting in increased RevPAR.

Looking ahead to Hilton’s investor day on March 19, where the company is expected to outline multi-year targets and discuss its earnings algorithm, analysts anticipate further positive developments. Melius Research maintains a buy rating on Hilton’s stock.

Overall, Hilton’s new partnership with SLH has been met with enthusiasm from analysts and investors alike. The collaboration opens up new possibilities for Hilton guests to enjoy luxury accommodations in various global destinations. Combined with Hilton’s strong financial performance, the company is well-positioned for continued success in the ever-evolving travel industry.
