Tragedy struck at a private resort in Mexico when an American tourist, identified as Jorge G. of El Paso, Texas, died while lounging in a hot tub. His wife, Lizette Z, also suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident. Authorities believe that both individuals were likely electrocuted by a malfunctioning device.
The couple was enjoying their time at the Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Penasco when the unfortunate incident occurred around 10 p.m. According to KTSM, Lizette Z was later transported to the US and is currently in critical condition.
Mexican officials confirmed that the man from Texas died after being electrocuted. The General Prosecutor’s Office for the State of Sonora noted that Lizette Z had burns consistent with electric shock injuries, indicating the possibility of faulty wiring being the cause. Investigators are currently looking into the matter to determine the exact cause of death.
A witness who knew the couple shared her account with the General Prosecutor’s Office. She stated that she saw them in the outdoor hot tub but noticed that neither of them was moving. When she attempted to help them, she too experienced an electric shock and had to call for assistance.

Sara Gaitan-Perez, an Arizona woman staying at the same resort, recounted her experience trying to assist the victims. She mentioned that her husband and son had been in the very same hot tub just an hour before the incident occurred.
