Director Denis Villeneuve also mentioned in a promotional video that they spent much more time in the desert for Part 2, with an entire month dedicated to capturing the essence of Arrakis.
Moving away from the desert landscapes, Dune 2 also took advantage of the picturesque Brion Sanctuary in Altivole, Italy. This location was used to depict the planet of Kaitain. Vermette described his emotional reaction to this location, sharing that it was the first time he started crying while walking on a set. The seamless blending of architecture and nature created a visually stunning representation of Kaitain.
Jordan, a prominent filming location for Dune: Part 1, was once again utilized for Dune 2. Vermette explained that they built the facade of the Makers’ Temple and the exterior of the low-ceilinged Bene Gesserit space in this country. The unique rock formations found in Jordan provided the perfect setting for these scenes. Vermette mentioned that they even inserted a plug into one rock formation to allow easy access for the cast and crew.
Budapest, Hungary served as the base for the production of Dune 2. Vermette revealed that they built Giedi Prime, the planet of the Harkonnen people, on soundstages in Budapest. The elaborate sets created an immersive experience for both the actors and the audience.
