SpaceX has achieved a historic milestone with the successful launch of its record-breaking ‘largest flying object ever.’ The Starship Heavy, designed by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, lifted off from Boca Chica, Texas, on March 14, marking a significant step toward making life multi-planetary.
After two previous unsuccessful attempts, the third time proved to be the charm for SpaceX. The launch was a momentous occasion, with Elon Musk congratulating the company for the achievement. Siva Bharadvaj, a space operations engineer, expressed his excitement during a livestream of the launch, stating, “There’s been flames… along the way, but the third time’s the charm, and we made it to space.”

The spacecraft embarked on its journey mounted atop its Super Heavy booster at 8:25 a.m. The mission had a setback during its return when contact was lost with Starship near the Indian Ocean, resulting in the loss of the spacecraft. However, despite this setback, the duration and achievements of this flight represented a considerable improvement over previous tests.
Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s longtime chief operating officer, shared her congratulations to the team on social media, highlighting the accomplishments of the mission. She emphasized that reaching higher and farther than before demonstrated Starship’s potential as a pivotal part of NASA’s Artemis moon-landing program.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson also lauded the event, expressing his congratulations to SpaceX on a successful test flight. He recognized the significance of Starship’s achievements and their contribution to humanity’s return to the moon and future missions to Mars.
Even Jeff Bezos, the owner of space exploration venture Blue Origin and a competitor to Elon Musk, congratulated SpaceX on their milestone. The achievement highlights the importance of collaboration and support within the space exploration industry.
