MCSO Reports Deputy Fires Weapon Following Driver’s Ramming of Patrol Car in Spring Area After Brief Pursuit

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputy was involved in a shooting incident following a brief pursuit in Spring, Texas. The incident occurred at the intersection of I-45H and Pruitt Road around 3 a.m. Captain Tim Hoffield, spokesperson for MCSO, provided details of the event.

According to Hoffield, deputies attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on a car that was traveling southbound from Sawdust Road. However, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield the right of way and ignored the deputies’ lights and sirens. This prompted a short chase, which came to an abrupt halt when they reached an ongoing crash scene. In an unexpected turn of events, the suspect put his car in reverse and rammed into the patrol car, causing one of the deputies to fall to the ground.

Fearing for their life, the deputy discharged their weapon towards the suspect, striking him. The suspect was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, and his condition remains unknown. The deputy involved in the incident was also transported to the hospital, although no injuries were reported for the other deputies present.

Sheriff Henderson expressed concern over the frequency of officer-involved shootings in Montgomery County. The incident is currently under investigation, as authorities seek to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

This latest incident highlights the challenging nature of law enforcement duties and the split-second decisions that officers sometimes have to make to protect themselves and others. As investigations continue, it is crucial to await further information before drawing any conclusions. Stay tuned for updates on this case.
