Salem Police and DCF Investigate as Three-Year-Old Boy Wanders from Daycare

Three-Year-Old Boy Found Wandering Away from Salem Daycare

An investigation is currently underway after a three-year-old boy was discovered wandering away from a local daycare in Salem, Massachusetts. The incident occurred last Friday morning when a US Postal Service employee found the child walking along Palmer Street and promptly alerted the authorities.

Child’s Safety Ensured by Postal Worker

The child, who was only wearing a long-sleeved shirt, sweatpants, and socks, was kept safe by the postal worker until the police arrived. Medical crews were called to the scene and took the child to a hospital for evaluation as a precautionary measure. During this time, staff members from the Salem Community Childcare Inc. approached the officers, informing them that they were searching for a child who had gone missing from their care.

Investigation Reveals Daycare Incident

Further investigation by the Salem police confirmed that the child found by the postal worker was indeed the same child from Salem Community Childcare. It was determined that the child had opened the daycare’s door around 10:45 a.m. and wandered outside without anyone noticing. The child’s parents were immediately notified, and a report was filed with the Department of Children and Families, who will collaborate with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care on this matter.

Mail Carrier’s Heroic Act

Dave Moulton, the mail carrier who found the missing child, described the moment he discovered him. Moulton, who has been delivering mail for eight years, noticed the toddler while on his route and immediately sensed that something was wrong. Concerned about the child’s well-being, Moulton approached him and found that he was cold and shivering without any shoes or a jacket.

Department of Children and Families Investigation

Salem Community Childcare declined to comment on the incident when contacted by 7NEWS. The Department of Children and Families confirmed that they have received a report and are currently conducting an investigation. No further information is available at this time.
