Introducing the Mastermind Behind the Glamorous 2024 Oscars Red Carpet

LOS ANGELES — When it comes to the Oscars, the focus is usually on the dazzling gowns, the A-list celebrities, and the prestigious awards. But have you ever wondered about the mastermind behind the iconic red carpet that sets the stage for this glamorous event? Meet Joe Lewis, the Oscars’ associate producer of arrivals and pre-show, affectionately known as the “Red Carpet Magic Maker.”

Transforming a bustling stretch of Hollywood Boulevard into the world’s most famous red carpet is no small feat. Lewis reveals the staggering numbers involved in this massive undertaking: “Seven hundred linear feet of carpet, one hundred thousand square feet of carpet, 600 man hours to install it, 500 crew members, 3,500 credentialed press, 6,000 happy, smiling guests, and 32 winners.” The logistics alone are mind-boggling.

After the champagne carpet surprise of last year, Lewis assures us that the red carpet has been restored to its former glory. “The red carpet is all about the Hollywood glamour, right?” he explains. “The Academy is bold enough to try new things, but they’re also bold enough to come back to what works. The tried and true.” This year’s red carpet is said to be brighter, resembling a vibrant cherry red.

But it’s not just the color that has undergone a makeover. The celebrity photo wall, a staple of every Oscars red carpet, has doubled in capacity. “It is twice the size as it’s ever been this year,” Lewis reveals. With two lanes to accommodate the flow of fashion and guests, this year’s photo wall promises to capture all the stunning looks in their full glory.

As we eagerly await Oscar Sunday on March 10th, Lewis provides a sneak peek into what to expect. The red carpet coverage starts at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT with “Countdown to Oscars: On The Red Carpet Live.” At 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, live coverage continues with “On The Red Carpet at the Oscars,” hosted by George Pennacchio alongside Roshumba Williams, Leslie Lopez, and Rachel Brown. And don’t forget to tune in to ABC at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT for the 96th Oscars, hosted by the beloved Jimmy Kimmel.

The Oscars are always a night of glitz, glamour, and unforgettable moments. But let’s not forget the incredible effort and creativity that goes into creating the perfect red carpet experience. Joe Lewis, the “Red Carpet Magic Maker,” is the unsung hero behind the scenes who ensures that everything runs smoothly and looks absolutely stunning. So as you watch the stars grace the red carpet, take a moment to appreciate the vision and hard work that brought it all together.
