Trader Joe’s Chicken Soup Dumplings Subject to Recall due to Potential Inclusion of Permanent Marker Plastic

Trader Joe’s, a popular grocery store chain known for its unique and affordable products, has recently issued a recall on one of its signature items – steamed chicken soup dumplings. The recall comes after the discovery of hard plastic, specifically from a permanent marker pen, in the dumplings. The affected dumplings, produced by CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp., were sold in Trader Joe’s stores across the country.

The recall, announced by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), affects more than 61,000 pounds of steamed chicken soup dumplings. Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are urged to check their freezers. The affected dumplings, labeled as “Trader Joe’s Steamed Chicken Soup Dumplings,” were produced on December 7, 2023. They can be identified by their side box labels with lot codes 03.07.25.C1-1 and 03.07.25.C1-2.

Fortunately, no illnesses or injuries related to the consumption of these dumplings have been reported thus far. However, FSIS advises consumers to discard the impacted dumplings or return them to any Trader Joe’s store for a full refund. Trader Joe’s has also released an online notice asking customers to dispose of the recalled product or return it for a refund, ensuring their customers’ safety.

The recall raises concerns about foreign object contamination in food products, which is one of the leading causes of recalls in the United States today. While this incident involves hard plastic from a permanent marker pen, other extraneous materials such as metal fragments and bits of bugs have also prompted recalls in packaged goods. The discovery of foreign materials in food products underscores the importance of stringent quality control measures during the manufacturing process.

CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp., the company responsible for producing the recalled dumplings, has launched an investigation into the issue. In a statement, the food maker emphasized that customer safety remains their top priority. It is crucial for food manufacturers to address such incidents promptly and take necessary actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The recall serves as a reminder for consumers to be vigilant and check product labels and lot codes to ensure the safety of the food they consume. Trader Joe’s, known for its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, has swiftly responded to the issue by issuing a recall and offering a full refund to affected customers.

Foreign object contamination incidents like this highlight the importance of robust quality control systems throughout the food supply chain. Consumers should feel empowered to report any concerns or issues they encounter with food products, as their feedback plays a crucial role in maintaining food safety standards.

As the investigation into the issue continues, both Trader Joe’s and CJ Foods Manufacturing Beaumont Corp. are expected to take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. In the meantime, consumers can rest assured that Trader Joe’s is dedicated to ensuring their safety and will continue to provide high-quality products that have made them a beloved grocery store among shoppers nationwide.
