Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, the daughter of Mama June Shannon and eldest sibling of the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo bunch, has tragically passed away at the age of 29 after her battle with stage four cancer. The news was announced by Shannon in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday (Dec. 10).
Announcement of Anna Cardwell’s Passing
In her Instagram post, Shannon expressed her heartbreak and shared the details of Anna’s passing. She wrote, “With a breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM. She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months. She passed away with her family around her… we will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today. We love y’all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family [during] this difficult time.”
Anna Cardwell’s Battle with Cancer
Earlier this year, TMZ reported that Cardwell was diagnosed with stage four adrenal carcinoma in January after experiencing stomachaches. The cancer had spread to her liver, kidney, and lung, leading her to undergo chemotherapy. At the time, the family remained hopeful about her recovery.
In May, Cardwell shared an update with her followers after her third round of chemo. She stated, “[Overall] it’s going good and chemo is working we come to find so things are looking good,” alongside a selfie with her husband, Eldridge Toney.
Mourning the Loss
Cardwell was Shannon’s first-born child and the half-sister to Jessica “Chubbs” Shannon, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson. Thompson, who gained fame on Toddlers & Tiaras, expressed her grief on Instagram, saying, “Last night we all surrounded Anna with love & let her know it was okay to go. Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family we all know she is at peace now. I really don’t know what to say as my heart is completely broken. Watching my 29-year-old sister battle this horrible disease hasn’t been easy. Anna was a fighter & still is. Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies & our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality.”
Thompson added, “I would’ve loved for you to get to see me graduate college, but I know you will forever cheer me on in heaven! We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever. And I promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left! The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you, Anna.”
