Family Holds Vigil for Woman Killed by Obsessive Ex-Boyfriend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Family members gathered on Saturday at the Turtle Pointe apartments in southwest Houston to honor Jaynice Ferguson, a 23-year-old woman who was tragically killed by her obsessive ex-boyfriend. The vigil was held at the spot where the incident occurred on January 17.

Identifying the Killer

According to the police, Ferguson used her dying words to identify her killer as Algie Washington, 46. This heartbreaking revelation has left her family seeking justice for her untimely death.

A Tribute of Love and Remembrance

During the vigil, Ferguson’s relatives lit candles and released purple, blue, and white balloons in her honor. The atmosphere was filled with emotions as they shouted “Justice for Jaynice.”

“These balloons are filled with helium just as we are filled with pain and sorrow,” said Raymond Pipkin, Ferguson’s brother-in-law and the family pastor.

A History of Harassment and Stalking

Ferguson’s family shared with Eyewitness News the details of her tumultuous relationship with Washington. They revealed that the couple broke up in 2020, but Ferguson endured three years of harassment and stalking following their separation.

Despite multiple assault charges and a protection order, Washington was able to track her down and take her life. Michelle Williams, Ferguson’s sister, expressed her grief, saying, “She hasn’t even lived her life. She was only 23 years old, extremely healthy, and a coward came and took her life.”

Elise Williams, Ferguson’s sister, also mourned the loss, saying, “I miss her phone calls. I miss her walking in the house. I miss her telling us, ‘Man, I miss y’all. Where y’all been?'”

Seeking Answers and Accountability

Ferguson’s family continues to question why more wasn’t done to protect their sister from Washington, given his long and documented history of harassment. They firmly believe that if authorities had taken the situation seriously, she would still be alive today.

The Alleged Killer in Custody

Algie Washington is currently being held on a $1 million bond as he awaits trial for the murder of Jaynice Ferguson.
