Police probe death of 2-year-old discovered unresponsive in Winthrop

Authorities in Winthrop, Massachusetts are currently investigating the tragic death of a 2-year-old girl who was found unresponsive inside a residence. Emergency crews were called to Pleasant Street at around 10:20 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, they discovered the girl in cardiac arrest. Due to the nearest ambulance being 20 minutes away, the fire chief made the decision to transport the child to Mass General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The call for help came from the home of former Winthrop Police Lt. James Feeley, who is currently facing charges of child rape and indecent assault and battery on a child. Feeley has been in custody since December.

Winthrop Police Chief Terence Delehanty commended the fire department for their heroic efforts in providing immediate medical treatment to the child under emergency conditions. While a preliminary investigation suggests no foul play, authorities are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
