Heading: Trump and Haley Make Final Pitches to Voters

Polls opened on Tuesday morning for the 2024 New Hampshire Primary, with Republican voters having to choose between former President Donald Trump and Former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Both candidates spent Monday in the Granite State, rallying their supporters and taking jabs at each other. They continued their campaign efforts on Tuesday, making additional stops around the state to connect with voters before their planned election night events.

Haley is hoping for a strong showing to slow down Trump’s momentum towards securing the GOP nomination. Differentiating herself from the former president, Haley reminded voters of the drama and discord that has followed Trump throughout his political career. She stated, “I was proud to serve America in his administration, but rightly or wrongly, chaos follows him.”

The Trump campaign exuded confidence, believing that the race is almost over. When asked if he thought the primary result would solidify his nomination victory, Trump responded, “I hope so because we want to get Biden. Worst president in history by far.”

According to CNN, 22% of eligible voters in the New Hampshire Primary had not voted before. Many first-time voters expressed their excitement to cast their ballots and shared their candidate preferences. One voter, David Singer, mentioned that he initially liked Haley but ultimately chose Trump because he didn’t believe she had what it takes to win in the general election.

In the first votes of the primary, cast at midnight in Dixville Notch, Haley emerged as the winner, receiving all six of the small town’s votes. She expressed her gratitude in a statement, saying, “A great start to a great day in New Hampshire. Thank you Dixville Notch!”

Meanwhile, officials in New Hampshire are investigating an apparent “artificially generated” robocall that imitated President Joe Biden’s voice and urged voters not to participate in the primary election. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office is looking into the matter, as the call stated, “Your vote makes a difference in November, not this Tuesday.”

Most polling places in New Hampshire are scheduled to close at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
