**Wilbraham Police Officer Injured in Gunfire Exchange with Suspect**

A Wilbraham police officer is currently recovering from serious injuries sustained during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect. The suspect was eventually apprehended and hospitalized after a lengthy standoff with the police.

Exchange of Gunfire

On Saturday evening around 8 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Old Carriage Road in Wilbraham. Upon arrival, they engaged in a shootout with a male individual present at the location. Unfortunately, one officer was shot and subsequently transported to a nearby hospital with severe injuries. The officer’s identity has not been disclosed, but he is currently in stable condition.

Suspect Apprehended

At midnight, the State Police Special Tactical Operations (STOP) Team entered the residence and successfully took the male suspect into custody. The suspect’s name has not been released at this time.

The STOP Team utilized the Bearcat armored vehicle to break a large ground-level window at the front of the house. They then deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle through the broken window, which revealed that the suspect was located in a front breezeway, suffering from gunshot wounds.

In addition to apprehending the suspect, the police also rescued two individuals who had managed to make their way onto the roof of an adjacent garage.

Investigation and Recovery of Evidence

Authorities discovered a handgun and ammunition near the suspect. These items have been recovered as evidence for further investigation into the incident.
