Galveston Couple Charged as 4-Month-Old Drinks Fentanyl-Laced Milk: Records

Mother and Boyfriend Arrested for Allegedly Giving Baby Fentanyl-Laced Milk

A mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after allegedly providing the woman’s baby with milk laced with fentanyl, according to court records. The incident occurred at a home in Galveston, Texas.

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment

On Thursday at approximately 1:18 a.m., first responders were called to the home on Avenue M 1/2. They discovered the 4-month-old baby unconscious. Paramedics administered Narcan, a medication used to counter the effects of opioids, including fentanyl, to revive the child.

The baby was immediately taken to an emergency center, where she tested positive for opiates.

Arrest and Charges

Christa Watkins and her boyfriend, Christopher Luis Velazquez, were charged with felony injury to a child. Initially, their bond was set at $80,000 each. However, their bond was later denied due to a hold for failure to meet a previous bond condition.

Watkins claimed that her daughter may have ingested dust from a Vicodin pill she had taken earlier in the day. However, doctors ruled out Vicodin based on the baby’s drug test.

Search of the Home

Detectives conducted a search of the home where the baby’s father, mother, and grandmother reside. During the search, several bottles of prescription pills and a clear plastic bag containing a brown substance were found. The brown substance tested positive for fentanyl and oxycodone.

Additionally, a baby bottle filled with milk was discovered on the bedroom dresser. Watkins stated that she did not feed her daughter breast milk. The milk tested presumptive positive for fentanyl and oxycodone.

Child Protective Services

The baby is currently under the care of Child Protective Services.
