Ian Somerhalder Embraces Farm Life and Leaves Hollywood Behind

Swapping Glitz and Glamor for the Farm

Ian Somerhalder, known for his role in “The Vampire Diaries,” has no regrets about leaving Hollywood behind for a simpler life on a farm. The 45-year-old actor and his wife, actress Nikki Reed, made the decision to move to a farm just outside of Los Angeles with their two children. Somerhalder explained that while he loved his acting career, he doesn’t miss it and is grateful for the amazing run he had.

A New Perspective on Nature and Compassion

Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of the documentary “Common Ground,” which focuses on sustainable and eco-friendly farming, Reed shared her insights into their life on the farm. She expressed how witnessing the way nature operates has brought them compassion. Reed also highlighted the importance of involving their children in growing their own food and understanding where it comes from.

An Environmental Commitment

The documentary “Common Ground” is a follow-up to the 2020 film “Kiss the Ground.” Both Somerhalder and Reed serve as executive producers on the project. Reed explained that she started connecting the dots between taking care of the planet and taking care of oneself. She sees it as an ongoing journey and commitment.

A Personal Journey and Lifestyle Change

While Somerhalder prefers to keep his personal life private, he opened up to E! News in November about his new lifestyle on the farm. He acknowledged that it requires a lot of work but finds it unbelievable to witness the diverse life forms and how they coexist on the farm. Somerhalder proudly shared that they produce most of their own food and jokingly mentioned living in his cowboy boots.
