Parents upset over man handcuffed and marched through Pershing Middle School

Concerned Parents Seek Answers After Security Incident at Pershing Middle School

HOUSTON, Texas – Several parents of students attending Pershing Middle School have expressed their frustration after failing to receive any information from school administrators regarding a concerning security incident that took place on January 11th.

In a video shared with Eyewitness News, a man in a blue shirt can be seen handcuffed and being escorted down a hallway at Pershing. Witnesses, including parents and students, confirmed that this incident occurred right after school dismissal.

Mariana Garcia, a parent of a sixth-grade student, expressed her disappointment in the lack of communication from the school. She believes that the school should have immediately informed parents about the incident instead of leaving them in the dark for a whole week. Garcia also expressed concern about the spread of rumors among the students.

The accounts of the incident have varied, with some claiming that the man was an intruder who gained access to the school, while others believe he was a parent attempting to pick up their child through the back door. Despite multiple requests for clarification from the Houston Independent School District (HISD), no official statement has been released.

Recordings from the HISD police scanner reveal that the responding officer described the man as a possible trespasser who appeared to be intoxicated.

With no official information provided by Pershing or the HISD administration, parents have had to rely on social media and their children’s accounts to piece together what happened. This has made it difficult for parents to separate facts from rumors and ensure their children feel safe.

Stella Wells, a sixth-grade student at Pershing, expressed her concern for her peers’ safety and emphasized the importance of addressing the security issue. Her mother, Lynn Wells, echoed these sentiments and called for improvements to be made to ensure the school’s safety.

ABC13 has reached out to HISD multiple times for an accurate and on-the-record account of the incident. As soon as a response is received, Eyewitness News will provide an update.
