The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) is calling on Texas residents to conserve electricity until Monday, Jan. 15, due to freezing temperatures and high demand.

If you are unsure how to prepare your home for freezing temperatures, watch the video above for helpful tips.

ERCOT specifically asks residents to reduce power usage between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., if it is safe to do so.

Due to the continued freezing temperatures, low wind, and high demand, ERCOT expects operating reserves for the Texas power grid to be low on Monday morning, Jan. 15, before sunrise. Similar conditions are anticipated on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The ABC13 Weather team has declared Monday through Wednesday as Weather Alert Days due to the potential for freezing rain and prolonged hard freeze.
