Hampton, NH Braces for Additional Rain and Flooding Following Midweek Storm

Residents in Hampton, New Hampshire Prepare for New Storm

Residents in Hampton, New Hampshire are busy making preparations ahead of an approaching storm that is expected to bring wind, rain, and the threat of coastal flooding. This comes just days after a previous round of stormy weather caused floodwater and seafoam to inundate the beachfront community.

Previous Storm Impact

The previous storm hit Hampton on Wednesday, and the next system is expected to arrive overnight, with coastal concerns peaking around high tide near 12 p.m. Saturday. Andy Kyriazis, a resident of Hampton, described how the water flowed all the way up his driveway and around the side of his house during the previous storm. He ended up with an inch of water inside his garage and has since bought barriers to protect his home. While setting up the barriers, he mentioned that they won’t prevent the water from getting in but will slow it down.

Precautions Taken by Police

In addition to homeowners preparing for the storm, police in Hampton are also taking precautions. They have laid out plans to close roadway access to Hampton Beach starting at 10 a.m. Saturday. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno stated that they are still assessing the damages from Wednesday’s storm and that the pickup process is hampered by the impending second round of bad weather. Reno also mentioned that the ocean water level is expected to be at or slightly higher than it was during the previous storm.

Urging Safety Measures

Officials have urged residents living in flood-prone areas to move their cars to higher ground and either leave the area early or shelter-in-place as conditions deteriorate. They have also advised people to keep an eye on forecasts, use common sense, and stay away from the ocean. Many residents in Hampton are well aware of the potential for flooding in their community and have taken preventive measures such as elevating belongings off the floor with pallets. Despite their preparations, they acknowledge that prayer is also necessary.

Storm Impacts and Preparations

The impacts of the storm are expected to extend well beyond Hampton on Saturday morning, with rain, wind, and coastal flooding anticipated throughout New England. As a result, preparations are underway in various communities, and flood watches and warnings are already in effect.
