Massachusetts State Police Resume Search for Murder Suspect in Worcester County Forest

Massachusetts State Police have announced that a specialized unit is once again conducting a search in a forest in Worcester County as they continue their efforts to locate a murder suspect who has been missing since October 2023. The search is focused on the woods in Ashburnham and Gardner, with members of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) leading the operation. Aaron Pennington, who is wanted on a murder charge for the death of his wife, Breanne Pennington, remains at large.

The search for Pennington began in late October after Breanne was found shot to death at their home in Gardner. The police were alerted to the incident by a neighbor who called 911 after the couple’s four children sought help at their house. Following a tip from a hunter, authorities located Aaron Pennington’s vehicle approximately 1,500 feet down a wooded trail in the Camp Collier area of Gardner, near the Ashburnham/Gardner line.

Multiple search teams, including the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team and Marine Unit, extensively searched the area. However, their efforts were temporarily suspended after failing to locate Pennington. Now, just over two months later, the state police SERT team has been called in to resume the search.

According to MSP spokesperson Dave Procopio, SERT is a highly trained search and rescue unit specializing in ground searches of challenging terrains. The team’s expertise will be crucial in navigating the difficult terrain of the forest during the search for Pennington.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Pennington’s whereabouts to contact Gardner police at 978-632-5600.
