Undercover Officers Shot at During Narcotics Investigation in Houston

Houston, Texas – Undercover officers conducting surveillance for a narcotics investigation in Houston were fired upon by an unrelated individual, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD). Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but one person was apprehended. The shooting occurred on Wayne Street in the Greater Fifth Ward at approximately 12:50 p.m.

Assistant Chief Jessica Anderson provided details of the incident, stating that two officers were inside an unmarked police vehicle when they came under fire. The suspect emerged from a nearby residence, spotted the officers’ car, retreated inside momentarily, and then reappeared with a firearm. The officers quickly drove away from the scene, with the suspect firing three shots at their vehicle. Thankfully, none of the officers were harmed, and the police did not return fire.

The officers immediately called for backup, and additional units arrived at the scene. They located the suspect inside the residence along with several other individuals. The arrested suspect, who remains unidentified at this time, was found in possession of a stolen gun and narcotics believed to be marijuana. It is unclear whether the suspect recognized the vehicle as a police unit.

HPD confirmed that the other individuals present at the residence cooperated with law enforcement, and no further arrests were made. A photograph posted on social media showed multiple officers on the blocked-off street, some wearing bulletproof vests and helmets while armed with rifles.

This incident serves as a reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily while carrying out their duties. The HPD will continue to investigate the incident and work towards ensuring the safety of both officers and the community they serve.
